Ditch the headphones!

Forget endless rounds of "repeat after me" - here are 5 fun effective ways to pick up another tongue.

1. Language holidays. Learn Spanish while sitting under a vine-strewn awning, followed by tapas at a local bar - learning a language in a native country is stimulating, inspiring and fun, and you'll come home having had a real experience…
2. Electronic aids. Using a PC. You can study whenever you want. Follow a course with a CO-ROM end book, such as the comprehensive Rossetta Stone series, or spend 20 minutes learning some vocabulary through simple memory games with the fun Eurotalk CD-ROMs.
3. Over the phone. If you are busy, often traveling, or simply live in a remote location, a series of 30-minute telephone language lessons supported by written materials are an excellent solution.
4. At the office. Give you and your colleagues a new dimension to the working day, put a new skill on your CV, improve group dynamics - and then all go for a drink afterwards.
5. Tailor-made. Why learn how to book a hotel if you are buying a house in France? Whether learning individually or as a group, tailor-made training means your course is based around your specific needs.
