Learn Spanish while walking the legendary Camino de Santiago

Celebrate Holy Year in Santiago de Compostela by following in the footsteps of pilgrims and learning Spanish...

Santiago de Compostela is the final and anticipated destination for those walking the ancient pilgrimage routes that make up the legendary Camino de Santiago.

Drawing in large numbers of visitors from around the world each year, this year promises to see even more people donning their walking boots and heading for this lush corner of north-west Spain, as 2010 is Holy Year for Santiago de Compostela – a prestige achieved only when 25th July, feast day of St James the Apostle, falls on a Sunday. Celebrations to mark the start of this new Holy Year – one that will not be repeated for another 11 years - included an explosion of fireworks and the ringing of over 1,000 bells across the city on New Year’s Eve; throughout the year the city will continue to host numerous cultural and leisure events to commemorate Holy Year for the expected influx of Spanish and foreign visitors.

No better excuse then to make this the year that you walk the Camino, and how better to embark on one of Spain’s most classic experiences than by learning some of the language as you go. With Cactus’ guided Spanish on El Camino de Santiago course you can walk the many different landscapes of green Galicia, visit historical and cultural sites along the way and stay in charming ‘casas rurales’, all whilst having your luggage transported for you from place to place…leaving you nothing else to do but breathe the fresh country air, admire the magnificent scenery and pick up some essential Spanish from your teacher-guide. Not a classroom in sight!

The course runs for two weeks on May 9th and September 12th; book by 12th March for the May course and receive a special discount of £150/$200! So hurry, dust off those walking boots and make 2010 the year that you embark on your own spiritual and linguistic journey in the great outdoors.

¡Buen camino!
