Interesting and affordable skills training for employees

According to a recent study conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers, a third of British workers have felt undervalued by their employer during the recession. The recession and stagnant employment market have given relatively few employees options to change their job, but as the job market picks up things are likely to change in this regard.
As a result, the advice to organisations is to look more closely at how to meet their staff’s needs and expectations, or risk losing them when the job market improves.
There are many training options and incentives to consider, but those that are beneficial for both employer and employee are obviously the most useful. A good example of this would be offering staff some foreign language tuition – particularly if the company is involved in international business, and has multi-national teams within it.
The most traditional way for companies to offer language training has been to have on-site, tailor-made courses. This is great for fast, industry-focused learning, but especially if it involves one of the lesser-learnt languages, may be out of the realms of the budget this year. If on-site training is not an option, why not consider offering employees a monetary contribution towards, and a couple of extra days annual leave for, a language course abroad?
