New German course locations in Baden-Wurttemberg - Constance, Freudental and Lindenberg
Monday, 29th November 2010

We have recently added three new Germany destinations to our range of locations, and have just been to visit the exciting new schools…
Cactus has always offered a wide variety of locations around Germany, ranging from large cities such as Berlin and Hamburg to the smaller towns of Regensburg and Radolfzell. We aim to cater for all tastes, not only in terms of the size of the town or city, but also with regard to the location within Germany, Austria and Switzerland, the type of courses on offer, and the kind of learning environment provided.
Our three most recent additions to the list of German course destinations are all in the region of Baden-Wurttemberg, but offer different course options, and a different type of learning experience. The three centres are located in Constance, Freudental and Lindenberg, and were visited recently by Cactus’ Alex Wolfson, who gives us the lowdown on what each can offer.
Constance
Located at the western end of Lake Constance, in the foothills of the Alps and very close to the Swiss border, Constance is a medium-sized city with an array of attractive buildings that date back to the Middle Ages and some knock-out views. As a university city it’s home to some 80,000 students who are well catered for with a huge array of cafes, bars and other entertainment venues.
The school in Constance enjoys an accessible location, just five minutes from the lake and offers Intensive and One to One German courses. As with all the schools he visited, Alex was very impressed with the staff and facilities and Konstanz (as it’s known in German), and noted that it is a particularly good option for anyone who needs to learn or improve their German in a relatively short space of time. The school seems especially to attract the younger generations, and outside of lessons offers a wide range of activities that include skiing, horse riding, windsurfing, biking and on a more cultural note, jazz concerts, film and theatre outing and literature meetings.
Accommodation is included in the course price in Constance and is provided in the school’s on-site residence, on a full-board basis.

Freudental
Situated twenty minutes or so from Constance, Freudental is a small but attractive town that is surrounded by some stunning scenery. One of the town’s most striking features is the hilltop castle that sits within it – a feature that students can not only see, but that they will actually be taught in during their German course! Although very historic, the interior of the castle has been renovated to provide a truly luxury learning environment, with modern classrooms, and even a gym, sauna and bar to enjoy outside of lessons. There are also bikes available, enabling students to explore the attractive surroundings.
According to Alex, the courses in Freudental are very much catered to executive language learners who are looking for intensive immersion. The majority of students who take a course in Freudental are there short-term, and accommodation and meals are provided within the castle. Students who attend classes in Freudenberg must be at least 21 years of age.

Lindenberg
Lindenberg is a small town in the foothills of the Alps that is best known for being named the town with the most hours of sunshine per year in Germany! It enjoys a picturesque and tranquil setting, which makes it the ideal location for a year-round centre for Juniors German courses.
The school itself is located on a self-contained and park-like campus, just a 10-minute walk from the centre of Lindenberg. Student housing consists almost exclusively of rooms with one or two beds, many of which have a fantastic view of the Alps, although host-family accommodation is also an option for those who would prefer it.
The centre offers some fantastic facilities, including a large indoor swimming pool, an auditorium for plays and other student productions, a computer room, a party room, a games room and a workshop. Alex thought that the campus felt very safe, very spacious and was impressed by the really lively and welcoming atmosphere that makes it perfect for the age group that it caters for – 10-17 year olds. Juniors courses are available all year round at the centre, and can be booked at a variety of levels and for whatever length you like.
