What kind of companies need multilingual employees?

Monday, 2nd November 2009

As the business world becomes increasingly more global, the need for multilingual employees becomes increasingly in demand.

Increasing competition from businesses around the world has lead to an increase in learning not only a second language but even sometimes a third. So what kind of company requires multilingual employees?

The most obvious businesses that require multilingual staff are translation, localization, and interpretation companies. But this is just where it starts.

Companies working within the global market require a versatile staff in order to communicate effectively. Banking is now a seamless enterprise, with fund managers and their teams needing to travel weekly to other parts of the globe in order to meet up with their investors. Many language training schools will teach you a language with your business in mind, incorporating the necessary vocabulary required to do banking, for example, overseas.

Ever notice that the same stores occupy the High Streets all across Britain? Well it doesn’t stop there. There’s a Zara on every corner in the US and in Shanghai, too.  With corporations extending all over the world, corporate communication teams need to have an understanding of cross cultures in order to perfect their brand across numerous continents.

Other businesses require comparative culture focus, such as marketing and advertising companies. There are commercials on television in Tokyo just as there are in New York, and the same product has to appeal to the Japanese as well as it does to the American. Knowing more than one language is an asset really no matter what job you may be applying for.

From law to finance and from technology to admin, most businesses today need linguists to allow communication across the globe and to understand different cultural needs. We put a list of the top jobs most people don't know you can do with a languages on our blog - http://eurolondonappointments.wordpress.com/2009/09/28/ten-language-jobs/ - these are all jobs that Euro London has recruited for and is an eye opener for many, showing just how many opportunities knowing a language can provide.
