Monday, 1st February 2010
The Tribeca film festival will take place this year from April 21st- May 2nd. It has become one of the most important film festivals in the world and showcases some of cinema’s finest new talent.
The Festival was founded in 2002 by Jane Rosenthal, Robert De Niro and Craig Hatkoff in an effort to inject some vitality into post- September 11 Lower Manhattan, and to celebrate New York as a major film-making centre.
The Festival’s program line-up offers film fans a wide variety of independent films including documentaries, narrative features and shorts, as well as family-friendly films. The Festival also features panel discussions with actors, directors and producers, film premieres, a family festival and a drive-in hosting a series of outdoor screenings.
One of the most well-known components of the Festival is its Artists Awards program where up-and-coming and well-known artists celebrate filmmakers by providing original works of art that are given to the filmmakers competition winners. Past artists of the Artists Awards program have included Chuck Close, Alex Katz and Julian Schnabel.
