Top 5 Spring Break destinations for language learners

We all know that Spring Break and partying go hand in hand, but this year why not make it fun AND constructive…

Taking a language course during this year’s break will mean you can make new friends, explore new places and soak up some sun – just like usual, in fact – but on top of that, you’ll have the added bonus of learning new skills and experiencing different cultures.

Although they take place in educational institutes, language courses offer a nice respite from formal classroom-type environments and offer a relaxed way of learning. In addition, they can often be coupled with activities like surfing, diving, dance and yoga, to let you practise your language skills whilst letting your hair down a little…

Our pick of the possible destinations this Spring Break would be:

1.  Jaco Beach, Costa Rica

This surfing hotspot is one of Costa Rica’s most popular resorts, and it’s easy to see why. It exudes relaxation with its laid-back atmosphere, yet still offers a great range of entertainment options. Spanish courses here attract a young, trendy crowd and can be done in conjunction with surfing, or yoga.

2. Salvador de Bahia, Brazil

Salvador da Bahia has got to be one of the most unique and exotic cities in the whole of South America. Once the magnificent capital of Portugal’s great New World colony, it is actually most well-known today as a centre of Afro-Brazilian culture. It is celebrated for its food, dance and martial arts traditions in particular, and in fact, if you choose to take a Portuguese course here you can combine it with either Samba dancing or Capoeira.

3. Taormina, Sicily

If you want to head somewhere further afield, why not opt for an Italian course in Taormina. At this time of year it’s just starting to hot up so you can make the most of the warm evenings and take relaxing dips in the clear-blue waters. There are lots of activity options available too so if you fancy a spot of golf, cookery or pottery on the side, you can give it a whirl!

4. Sosua, Dominican Republic

A great alternative to the likes of overcrowded Cancun, Sosua is a small seaside town on the north coast of the Dominican Republic that offers countless options for water-sports, some great nightlife, and lovely beaches to relax on. Quite simply a fabulous option for Spring Breakers who want to brush up their Spanish…
