Exercising mind and body: how hobbies can help you
Wednesday, 25th February 2009

In the hectic age of today, it is important to retain some time for ourselves.
With stressful jobs, demands of family life and general worries of modern living a-plenty, we all need an escape.
For some people, the pure, unadulterated relaxation of treating yourself to a spa, or luxury holiday is the key. For others, delving into a good book, or going to the cinema is all you need for a bit of escapism. Other people however, consider ‘me’ time to be better spent exercising a part of the mind or body that doesn’t often get used, which in turn provides enjoyment and satisfaction of a different kind.
Whilst some people have long-standing hobbies or interests to serve this purpose, others do not. With such a host of different options for evening and part-time classes available though, why not take the plunge and sign yourself up for something new?
In today’s competitive job market, what starts out as a hobby can provide you with priceless skills to boost your cv too…
Anyone looking for a physical activity could choose bewteen such pursuits as yoga, tai chi, pilates or aerobics. If doing something creative is more up your street, you could try your hand at pottery, flower arranging, photography or even a spot of creative writing.
Language-learning is also a great part-time activity. Classes are fun, sociable and largely conversation based - they really do provide a relaxed and enjoyable environment to learn in. Courses are available from beginners level up to advanced in London, Manchester, Liverpool, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Harrogate, Newcastle, Southampton, Brighton, Exeter, Canterbury, Oxford and Cambridge.
