Cactus Opinion: Nice
Friday, 16th January 2009
Nice is simply one of those places that you never, ever tire of. I have visited the city on five separate occasions already, yet never cease to hanker after a quick trip back.
Perhaps it’s the mix of resort and city that makes it so appealing, or maybe it’s just that relaxed Mediterranean atmosphere and those so unique opaque waters that beckon.
France’s fifth largest city, Nice lives up to every expectation that is evoked by the mention of a trip to the French Riviera. It has the warm climate, the blue seas, the fantastic seafood, the café culture, the laid back atmosphere, and the beautiful people...and it seems never to sleep.
Whether you’re after gentle strolls along the Promenade des Anglais and around the markets of the old town, or a more cultural experience courtesy of the likes of the Matisse museum, there will be something that suits.
Within easy reach from the city are the glamorous coastal towns of Cannes and Antibes. Hop on a train for 30 minutes and you’re in the millionaire’s haven that is Monaco. If you’re feeling more adventurous, and have a few days at your disposal, you can even take a ferry over to the beautiful island of Corsica and its white-sand beaches.
I can’t think of a better place to do a language course, especially in the summer. With so many things to see and explore your experience will certainly be as rewarding outside of the classroom as it is inside.
