Take in a bit of French culture…in Manchester

In July 2009, Manchester will play host to an international festival celebrating new works from across the spectrum of performing arts, music, visual arts and popular culture.

It is the second festival of its kind, and this year one of the many highlights will be ‘Prima Donna’, a world premiere of an opera composed and performed entirely in French by Rufus Wainwright.

The artist’s first ever opera, sung in French, is a portrait of a fading opera singer, set in Paris in 1079.

There will be five performances of Prima Donna at Manchester’s Palace Theatre in 2009: July 10th, 14th, and 17th (in the evening), as well as July 12th and 19th (matinee).
