NEW Language & Cultural Training Programme
Thursday, 19th February 2009

Cactus, one of the world’s leading language training companies, and CultureSmart! Consulting have teamed up to offer their clients a new programme integrating language and cultural training.
Organisations now operate on a global scale and interaction with people from different cultures is an everyday occurrence. Providing a complete understanding of the chosen language and the attitudes and values of the culture, the new programme is ideal for orgaisations wishing to equip their people with the knowledge and skills to conduct international business more effectively.
The programme can be tailored to meet the individual’s requirements, but it typically features 40 hours of Language Training and 4 hours of Cultural Training. The language elements focus primarily on grammatical structures, lexical patterns and pronunciation techniques, drawing from various cultural insights such as how people greet each other and how to show respect. The cultural aspect of the course is designed to create an intellectual and attitudinal framework which informs the context of the language, and looks at social relationships, management and communication styles.
“We’re delighted to be working with CultureSmart! Consulting to deliver a programme reflecting the natural synergy between language and culture,” said Chris Moore, Head of Cactus Language Training. “Whether it be liaising with an overseas supplier, working as part of a multi-cultural team or managing an international project, learning the language and understanding the cultural background and business practices of the people you are working with has become increasingly important.”
David Solomons, Chief Executive at CultureSmart! Consulting added: “Our new programme is participative, informative and directly applicable to the world outside the training room. It’s not about providing students with facts or figures or a list of dos or don’ts, it’s about giving a sense of why people from other cultures behave the way they do. We do this by providing students with the language skills, an insight into how it works in a cross-cultural setting, and how it can be used appropriately and effectively in the work-place.”
