New incentives for local language learning
Tuesday, 16th June 2009
The government has recently announced the withdrawal of funding for students taking second qualifications (at an equal or lower level to those they already hold) within the Lifelong Learning sector. In a somewhat contradictory action however, it has also pledged financial support for people who want to organise their own groups and classes.
It has been announced that £20 million will be made available to develop new adult learning opportunities, primarily in public and private buildings such as “pubs, shops, cafes and churches”.
For people who have found that their local college or university has been forced to ‘drop’ part-time classes in languages, there are a couple of options to think about.
If you wish to consider exploring the possibility of organising your own group language course in a public place, we have the expertise to help. With years of language training experience, we can provide experienced native speaker teachers and a syllabus that will perfectly reflect your needs.
If you don’t have the time to commit to getting involved with a project like this, it might be simpler to find an alternative part-time course. Cactus runs 10-week language courses in a variety of UK locations, and a wide range of languages. With proces starting from £149, they are affordable, worthwhile and will give you the skills that you want or require.
Whilst learning for pleasure is as valid a reason as any to do so, the increase in redundancies and the ensuing need for people to re-train or up-skill means that it is more important that ever for people to have the opportunity to learn a language. Following one of our part-time courses and tailor-made language training options should give you the possibility still to do so.
