English courses in the UK: how to choose your destination

Wednesday, 18th March 2009

English-speaking countries are full of beautiful cities and study locations, and with so many options it can be hard to know which one to choose.

The favourable exchange rate that any foreign students coming to study in the UK are enjoying at the moment though, is definitely making it a popular destination. If you do decide on Great Britain as the place to take your course, there are still a huge variety of places to choose from throughout England, Scotland and Wales so here are some aspects to consider when you make your decision.

- Do you want to be in a very large city with a really cosmopolitan feel?
If so, you should consider places such as London, Manchester, Liverpool and Glasgow.

-Do you want to study in a fairly cheap destination where your money will go even further?
If so, the North tends to offer more value for money than the South, therefore Newcastle, Leeds, Manchester, Liverpool , Nottingham, and Glasgow would all be suitable options.

-Do you want to study somewhere with a reputation for being safe?
If so, smaller, more ‘exclusive’ places such as Winchester and Exeter might be best for you.

-Do you want to study somewhere with a big party scene?
Aside from the really big cities such as London, Manchester and Glasgow, Brighton, Bristol, Cardiff, Leeds, Newcastle and Nottingham are all famous for their lively nightlife.

-Do you want to study somewhere with a beach?
If so, you should choose between Brighton, Bournemouth or Torquay.

-Do you want to study somewhere pretty and historic?
If so, there are lots of places to choose from! Particularly well-known for these attributes though are Bath, Cambridge, Canterbury, Chester, Edinburgh, Exeter, Oxford and Winchester.

-Would you prefer to study somewhere small and friendly?
If so, the smallest places to choose from are probably Colchester or Torquay.
