Learning German in Brighton - week 6
Saturday, 23rd February 2008
Back in the class and back to the books.
Seems last week they covered buildings and shops and talking about things when you are out in the street. We are now at Lektion drei, Übung dreizen or Chapter 3, Section 13. We have covered talking about what job someone does and listening to a conversation, understand it and then role play it.
We also got to grips with the time and reading the hands on a clock this week. This sounds easy and can be, but there are some things to catch you out. German’s look to the next hour when telling the time after the half so it is half an hour to the next hour rather than past. We passed a clock around and tested each other with different times. As some times just listing to 2 and 25 might be 1.35 rather than 2.25 depending on the other small words in the sentence.
Everyone one was very tired this week and I think being a few people down we got through the stuff quicker so after half an hour of waiting for the lesson to end we got off ten minutes early. I was glad as 2 hours of lessons an hour and half after the end of work is hard work some weeks.
