Learn a language to get involved in London 2012
Monday, 21st September 2009
In order for the Olympic and Paralympic Games to run successfully, up to 70,000 volunteers will be required – what better way to get involved and really experience this once-in-a-lifetime occasion?
Many people will want the opportunity to participate behind the scenes, and volunteering places will be very competitive. Language skills and cultural knowledge will be a real asset for lots of volunteering roles, and will definitely give you the edge when it comes to selection.
Recruitment of volunteers will start in 2010, so if you don’t speak any foreign languages yet, or your skills are decidedly rusty, you still have time to learn or brush up on what you already know!
Evening courses in a range of foreign languages are available all over the UK, although you could also opt for individual, tailor-made training, or language training abroad.
If you really want to give yourself a competitive edge, you might want to consider learning one of the lesser-spoken foreign languages – we have courses available in Arabic, Catalan, Chinese Mandarin and Cantonese, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Japanese, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Swedish, Turkish, Thai and Welsh, as well as French, German, Spanish and Italian.
