Five good reasons to do the English Language Awareness (ELA) course

Cactus TEFL's online English Language Awareness course is a great option for anyone about to embark on a TEFL course. It will give you a great knowledge of English grammar and save oodles of time when it comes to planning lessons during your course.

If you don’t have time to take the course before you do your TEFL training though, there are still plenty of reasons why it’s beneficial to complete it before you start your first teaching job:

Knowledge
There are certain countries where much of the EFL teaching is based around conversation lessons, but the vast majority of TEFL jobs will involve just as much emphasis on grammar as on conversation. Having a good working knowledge of the ins and outs of English grammar will help enormously when it comes to lesson planning- having to swot up on whichever grammar point you need to teach before you plan the lesson will add hours to your preparation!

Confidence
Having done the ELA course should mean that you have the confidence to deal with those tricky grammar questions which students (particularly in high level classes) might have for you. You can avoid those embarrassing silences when eager students quiz you on the differences between the past simple and the present perfect, for example!

Employability
Doing the ELA course in addition to your TEFL course will look great on your CV by showing that you are both keen and knowledgeable.

Value for Money
At a mere £75, ELA is great value for money. Using the promotional code given to you by your training centre will give you a further 5% off too!

Accolade
The ELA course was nominated for the British Council Innovation Award in 2008- we always knew it was good, but this was confirmed by the experts!
