Cactus Monthly Writing Competition: September/October 2011
Thursday, 8th September 2011

Cactus is extending its writing competition this month to all of our social media users, who are invited to submit their entries alongside Cactus staff to be in with a chance of winning a fabulous prize.
For the month of September and October, the theme is:
“Write about a language trap or cultural faux pas that you have personally made or witnessed.”
Being language learners and keen travellers ourselves, we all know how easy it is to say or do the wrong thing in a foreign country! With this in mind, we thought it would be fun to compile a list of anecdotes for our website. So whether you’ve had an embarrassing moment yourself or seen someone else slip up abroad - either through language or etiquette - please let us know!
The person who sends in the best-written piece will win a fantastic £50 voucher to spend at lastminute.com and a free ‘Culture Smart!’ guide to the country of your choice - to read up as you are jetting off!
The deadline for this month’s competition is Monday 24th October and the winner will be announced on Friday 28th October. Please send your entries to , Web Editor at Cactus Worldwide.
Guidelines:
i) Please state your full name, email address, postal address and contact telephone number on your entry.
ii) Entries should be between 250-400 words.
iii) Accompanying photographs are not compulsory but are welcome if suitable to the theme, eg. a location or personal shot.
iv) Cactus reserves the right the publish competition entries on its website and in any future marketing materials.
Good luck, and keep posted for details of future competitions!
