Cactus attends Independent Schools Modern Languages Association event

Saturday 6 February saw Cactus exhibit for the first time at an event organised by the Independent Schools Modern Languages association.

Held at the North London Collegiate School, this event brings together modern languages teachers from independent schools all over the country to attend seminars and lectures on language learning in schools and innovative ways to bring the language alive. At the same time they have the opportunity to meet organisations connected with language learning such as Cactus!

I set up a stand alongside Bob Burger from Malaca Instituto and Andrew Kinselle from Langues Sans Frontiers (our partner schools in Malaga and Montpellier respectively) and we had an interesting and busy day speaking to teachers about the programs we offer for school groups as well as language summer camps for under 18s. This was an excellent chance to get out and meet potential clients, which as an internet company we don’t get the chance to do as much as we’d like.

The teachers had a packed schedule but it was great to meet so many that were interested in the value of language learning in the countries where the language is spoken. In the afternoon we announced our prize winners! Each person who gave us their contact details had a number next to their name. Towards the end of the day 3 numbers were chosen at random to win some fantastic prizes. The prize winners were:

Sarah Checketts (Repton College) : 2 week language course and accommodation in Malaga.

Paul Vanni (St Paul’s School): 10 week evening course in any language in any of the locations we offer Cactus evening classes.

Simon Bird (Cranleigh School): 2 bottles of delicious langue d’oc wine from Montpellier.

All in all it was a highly productive and successful event which we hope to attend again. The day ended just in time for Bob, Andrew and I to head off to a nearby North London to catch the kick off of the England v Wales game!

Many thanks to ISMLA for giving us the chance to attend, and to the North London Collegiate School for their excellent lunch!
