Language Required:
French
When:
June 2002
Location:
Kingston (England)
Client:
Hotelier relocating from London to Nice to run a new family hotel.
Requirement:
To learn Survival French for 1 week in advance of moving to France to be
able to manage suppliers, builders, neighbours, etc
Solution:
One week of Intensive Training (30 hours) in the UK to give the client confidence
before arriving in France - training took place over 5 days at the client's
home (including 4 weekdays and one Sunday). The client picked up the trainer
at the train station, and all training took place in the client's home. The client
also arranged lunch for herself and the trainer. All training was arranged
by Cactus.
Training Provided by:
Anne (qualified native French trainer), with course structure/materials planned
by Cactus.
Client Feedback:
After the course: "Yes, all went well, thank you. We really enjoyed
having Anne at the house every day and feel that we made a new friend. I gained
a lot more confidence, and cannot wait to 'go for it' out there. Although
Anne laughed at some of my sentences, one or two would get me in trouble with
the men (e.g. Je suis chaud!), it was definitely a 'bonne idee'!"
4 months later: "We are now living in Roquebilliere, Alpes Maritimes, and
have been here for 8 weeks. The French is coming along ok, but I still have
to 'knuckle down' a bit more. We have just taken on a Husky puppy who is taking
up a lot of time, plus I have already had some clients in my two apartments,
which I worked on as soon as we arrived. The builders are also in and as from
October I will start my B&B business, as we will have an extra three bedrooms
and two bathrooms on our top floor. The garden is also coming along, all 11
acres of it!
We are getting on fine here, thanks to Cactus. Having that week with Anne
gave me so much more confidence - even though I need to be corrected a lot, at least
I am 'having a go'. I also plucked up the courage last week and asked for
a job at our local ski resort. Today I was offered a ski wear shop to run
from 20th December to end of March, which would be great for my French. So
I am now really trying hard to get my French up to scratch. Verbs are awful
and I do struggle, but with everyone's help (as no one speaks English here)
I am sure I will combate them. Thanks again for all your help. If you ever
need a recommendation written you only have to ask and a glowing one will
be emailed over!"
