Flamenco Flow move from Brighton Festival to Orlando Festival!
Posted by Sarah under Cactus Languages Abroad, Spanish
Having sponsored Flamenco Flow at Brighton Festival, Cactus receives good news on the Flamenco Flow world tour State-side…
Orlando Festival went very well, with seven performances there. Working with a team of two talented dancers - both female, so the dynamic was very different! - Ricardo Garcia and his manager, Julie, toured through NYC, Orlando, Montreal, Ottawa and Vancouver last year. With over thirty shows, right at the end they won the Audience Choice Award for the Vancouver International Fringe Festival - voted by the Audience over the whole Festival!
This year they have developed the show - I’m waiting to see the video which Julie has promised me, as I am told it’s really fun and VERY skilled! They are running the show with just three performers, Ricardo, La Canela, who is a dancer from Southern Spain living in Florida, and Jen Casimir: B Girl Bounse - from Montreal. The last show here had a singer and a percussionist, and Julie hopes to show a video of this to some of the bigger festivals in Europe, the States and Canada. Their aim as a group is to make their show much bigger, with more musicians and two more dancers - male! - one flamenco and one break! Having seen Joaquim Cortez dance in Lisbon one year, watching the sweat fly off his torso and seeing the passion in his face on a big screen, I say bring it on! There was almost a chemical / physical reaction from the women in the audience!
Orlando is great fun as a festival - and Ricardo was also invited to do a short cabaret style showcase, which meant they got to see lots of other clips of other shows, and be the audience as well whilst they were there! One of the best things about touring the same festivals each year is having the opportunity to meet up again with performers that they have toured with before and getting to see their new shows…
