Why Honduras is a great Spanish study destination
Friday, 4th December 2009
Honduras is a beautiful country just east of Guatemala and north of Nicaragua, in Central America.
Lying in between the Pacific and Caribbean waters, it is a Spanish speaking country. Keeping these two things in mind, it sounds like the perfect place to go and study Spanish.
Honduras is made up of many different ancient cultures, including the Mayan civilization. This country is steeped in history, and when you go there to study Spanish, you will also learn the vast cultures of the many different people living there. Your teachers will instruct you about local customs. Take advantage of the excursions offered while you are in Honduras. There are many day trips available to the many archeological ruins, as well as national parks and even the rain forest.
You can choose to live in an apartment with friends or live with a host family, where you will be completely immersed in the fascinating culture. There are many choices of where to study and you will definitely have a different experience depending upon location.
One place where you will definitely enjoy studying Spanish is in the town of Copan Ruinas. It lies near the mountains of western Honduras and is very close to Mayan ruins. You can also choose to study in the capital city, Tegucigalpa, which is in the center of the country. Study anywhere along the coast, where you will find beautiful fine sand beaches. If you choose the coastal region, expect some extracurricular activities such as scuba diving around the Bay Islands of Utila and Roatan. The snorkeling is exceptional as there are amazing coral reefs to be explored – in between classes, of course!
Your dollars will go a long way in Honduras, so this will be an economical way to learn a new language, culture, and enjoy a bit of sunshine during your stay.
