Take a Spanish & Surfing course in Peru – home of the 2011 World Junior Surf Championship
Monday, 6th June 2011
This year the prestigious Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championship took place in Punta Hermosa, Peru...
Whilst traditionally it has been places like Australia, California, Hawaii and South Africa that have been most associated with the sport, the fact that Punta Hermosa was chosen as this year’s host location reflects its status as an increasingly popular surf destination. It was the first occasion that the event had been held in Peru.
According to the championship’s website the country was chosen because of its ‘fervent commitment to a better surfing future, a great and well-structured National Governing Body (the Peruvian Surfing Federation), a coast packed with consistent waves and also due to the promotion of surfing in this region.’
One of 43 districts of the Lima province in Peru, Punta Hermosa is well known for its Pacific beaches, which thousands of people flock to each summer. The championship took place during the last week in May, and attracted thousands of extra visitors who were keen for a slice of the action…
