Festival fun in Brighton this autumn

Brighton has a reputation for being one of Britain’s most lively, cosmopolitan, and culturally diverse cities. You just have to look at the city’s entertainment bill over the next month or so to see why.

Throughout the autumn, Brighton will host a month-long food and drink festival, a week-long extreme sports and music festival, one of the UK’s premier comedy festivals, and the first ever student film awards.

Brighton and Hove Food and Drink Festival

Held throughout September, this festival is a must for any foodie.  Included in the festival are live food shows, farmers markets and even a debate! For the first time this year there will also be ‘open house dining’, which will follow a similar format to the popular channel four series ‘Come dine with me’.

An especially interesting part of the festival is the two-day World Food Market, which will be held on Hove lawns on 26th and 27th September.  Cactus will be holding 20 minute introductory lessons in Spanish and Japanese at this event – stop by and pick up a few phrases to ensure that you get service with an extra big smile the next time you head to your local tapas or noodle bar!

White Air

White Air is Europe’s largest Extreme Sports and Music festival.  Taking place for the first time in its new Brighton venue from 18th-20th September, White Air will be packed full of sporting action and live performances from the likes of the Doves and the Lemonheads.

The festival offers a great opportunity to learn about the sports and how to get started, or for the less energetic amongst us, simply to soak up some of the festival atmosphere…

Magners Comedy festival

From October 8th-24th, Brighton will once again welcome some of the UK’s brightest comedic talent to its shores. The vast array of comedians will leave you at a loss to know how to choose which ones to see – included amongst the impressive line-up this year are Alan Carr, Michael McIntyre, Simon Amstell, Jimmy Carr and Al Murray.

The Student Film Awards

The first Student Film Awards will debut in Brighton November 13-15th, 2009. Awards will be given for best short film, best documentary and best animation film. It is hoped that the Awards will give young filmmakers an opportunity to show off their talents and to catch the eye of film makers seeking exciting new talent.
