Academic credits: travel the world and gain credits for your course

Students at American colleges and universities don't necessarily have to stay on home soil - Cactus is here to help guide you through the process of gaining course credits overseas.

Students at American colleges and universities have the unique opportunity to gain credits towards their course by studying at a language school overseas. Where you study and the number of credits you can obtain are entirely dependent on your academic institution back home – and as such you should always seek approval from your university or college prior to booking any course – but the chance to spend part of your course overseas proves to be a very attractive and rewarding opportunity for many students.

Credit can be granted for a number of language programs and cultural immersion programs, as well as for university programs – in subjects such as Art History or Latin American Studies – over the course of a summer or semester overseas.

If you are interested in gaining credit by studying overseas, you should first speak to your College or University to find out what information they require. The majority of American universities require at least 20 lessons of class hours for 1 semester credit. And many institutions do not grant credit for courses overseas if the institution is not affiliated with a US College or University.

Acting as an agent for language schools all over the globe, and with excellent knowledge of all of our partner schools, Cactus is committed to helping American students gain credits for their courses abroad and to making the process of transferring credits as smooth as possible.

We have a dedicated in-house Language Program Coordinator, Adrienne Mansard, who can guide you through the options available and provide course and accommodation details and pricing: you can contact Adrienne on or by calling (+1) 212-601-9343 / toll-free 1-888-577-8451 and selecting option 2. Half-French and having traveled extensively herself, Adrienne has a love of all things language and travel and enjoys helping other people to learn languages and do the same.

Wherever you go and for however long you study, earning academic credits overseas is a wonderful way to see the world all in the name of education! Many of us at Cactus have learnt a language whilst traveling or studying abroad and can only vouch for the the rapid achievement and personal satisfaction that comes with doing so.

We have both short-term summer courses and semester programs starting in the Fall available.

Further information on academic credits can be found on our website.
