Languages and dance - the latest free time phenomenon
Tuesday, 21st April 2009
It seems, in the UK anyway, that traditional forms of dancing are enjoying a comeback. After many years of being hailed old-fashioned, and ‘uncool’ amongst young people especially, these types of dance are once again very much en vogue.
This is probably down to the various prime-time TV series that have emerged in the last few years, which see various celebrities fighting it out on the dance floor for the winning title. The inclusion of celebrities in the equation has no doubt helped, but the Latin dancing especially is vibrant, exotic and colourful – it’s easy to see why the viewing figures are so high.
Many of the dances have Latin roots, and amongst those to feature in the programme are tango, flamenco, salsa and samba.
There are hundreds of evening courses to learn these types of dancing in the UK now, but what better way to learn than by doing an intensive course in the country of their origin?
You can choose to take a Spanish and dance course in various places, including Alicante, Granada, Marbella, Madrid and Barcelona in Spain, and places throughout Central and South America including Mexico, Cuba, Brazil, Mexico and Argentina.
Dance can be a really important part of a country’s cultural identity and will give you a great insight into their traditions and history, alongside learning a new skill and keeping you in shape!
