In Germany instead of in a lesson - week 3

This week I was in Germany near Köln/Cologne so I missed my German lesson. I think having to speak a bit of German every day makes up for it though ;)
I’m quite enjoying my Cactus Language 10 week evening course though, the people are very warm and friendly and will look forward to next weeks lesson. Just have to put in the homework.
We were visiting my girlfriend’s family in Germany with Karneval(carnival) at the end of the week. This seemed to be dressing up as a clown, or pirate or animal or just about anything else and drinking lots of kolsch beer.

I practised my German when ordering in the shops to a small degree, mostly counting my money in German. I felt I was following my father in laws words a bit more though I still need to improve my own sentences from one or two words. When your with people who can talk for you it is easy not to talk another language.
My hardest test came on Friday when we has friends over to the house we were staying at and played Cranium. This is the party game of mime, drawing, facts and clay making. Following the questions is quite hard but the fun element helps the desire to learn. My miming was first rate though. I remembered from last time ‘du bist’ is used to say it’s your turn, when someone asks. More fun next week I hope as I bought some of my favourite German board games home, ‘brett spiel’.
