Enjoy an evening of German history and culture in Covent Garden
Monday, 1st March 2010
Running at the Tristan Bates Theatre, Anne Rabe’s acclaimed ‘Sunflower House’ follows the story of an East German family in the years following the reunification.
Sunflower House is set in the early 1990’s, when 18 year old Micha is making a documentary about his family. As the family “remembers” unification, what life was like before, and what is life now, Micha unearths some unexpected facts and, with great enthusiasm, reassesses his father’s role as a Stasi informant as well as that famous arson attack on the Sunflower House next day…
The play is regarded as a powerful portrait of the first post-unification generation and was the winner of the widely respected Kleist-Scholarship Award in 2008.
