Feedback: Online English Language Awareness Course
Thursday, 5th February 2009
Cactus TEFL client Estelle Francis tells us why she chose to do the English Language Awareness course, how it helped her pepare for her TEFL training and what she hopes to do now that she is qualified.
I opted for the ELA course because I wanted to refresh my knowledge of grammar before embarking on a Cambridge CELTA course. I thought this would be a little more interesting than trawling through countless books and seemed like a good user-friendly way to learn. It also had a 45 day subscription which helped to motivate me to get stuck in and have a goal to aim for.
I found the video teaching examples particularly interesting and they gave me a good insight into what I would be doing once I started the course. I also liked the fact that it was split up into units which you could then be tested on. This helped me to gauge my progress and enabled me to test myself on what I had learnt.
I certainly found it a helpful course and I would recommend it to anyone considering going on to do a TEFL qualification.
I have now just completed my 4 week intensive CELTA course and I can truly say it is as intensive as they say it is...and a little bit more! It was such an intense learning experience but also incredibly enjoyable at the same time and I feel so excited to have done it and have a great sense of achievement.
I don’t have any immediate plans on how I will use my qualification. I am looking for some evening teaching work for the time being but I hope to use my qualification to travel and experience more of the world in the future.
