Take in some Spanish cinema at the London Spanish Film Festival: 23rd September – 6th October

This year, the 7th Spanish Film Festival will be taking place in London.

From 23 September to 6 October 2011, a selection of some of the most exciting recent Spanish films, reflecting a variety of genres, will be shown at venues including Cine Lumiere, International House, Shortwave and Rich Mix.

Some of these films, including Lope and Neon Flesh will later be released in the UK, but the majority will be shown exclusively at this festival. A number of the films will be introduced by their directors or actors too - some of the guests confirmed to attend include Paco Cabezas (director of Neon Flesh and Bon Appetit which he co-wrote) and Oscar Aibar (director of El gran Vázquez).

As in previous years, there will be a Catalan Window with a variety of films that showcase cinematic talent from Catalonia, including Ramon Térmens’ Catalunya Uber Alles! and Legend of the Soldier, in Catalonia known as Bruc, the name of the Catalan legendary drummer boy.

Basque cinema will be represented by Bon appetit, and by the latest film of Basque filmmaker Alex de la Iglesia: Balada triste de trompeta, which won him the Venice Silver Lion for Best Director in 2010.

This year’s Special Feature is dedicated to a US-born actress with an international career that includes an extensive list of films in Spain starting in the mid-60s, when she became Carlos Saura’s muse, Geraldine Chaplin.

The Festival will also pay tribute to the late Luis García Berlanga, one of Spain’s most iconic independent filmmakers.
