Starting my German evening course - week 1
Thursday, 17th January 2008
I finally made the move to start learning more German last night.
I have been with my German girlfriend for more than three years and now our son is over two have found a free evening to take a 10 week language course. I booked it through http://www.languagecoursesuk.co.uk and it started on the 16th January.
I have started on the German Beginners course at the Cactus Brighton School. I know quite a few words and small phrases in German but need to improve so I can have a full conversation and teach our son. So after finding a parking space I found the school and went upstairs to room 27.
We have a nice sized class of seven with two women and five men in the class. The funny thing is though four have German partners and one a German friend to learn for. I was not expecting quite so many but apparently that is one of the biggest drivers in some of the other courses too. Everyone seems to be around 30 and live locally.
First lesson we covered saying our names, where we come from, where we live and what languages we speak. After some practice we moved on the the alphabet and greetings. Spelling your name to another person and then to the class is not so easy with new letter sounds to learn, so think I’ll be practising my mouth shapes this week.
Everyone seems very nice and open to trying a new language and we only have one module to study for next week, so I’m off to hit the books.
