Why Languages for the Energy Industry?
The need for languages in the energy industry has always been present. This industry has increased in its commercial power and size, with many smaller, nationalised companies growing to become powerful, commercially aware multi-national organisations. Our clients have taken several different forms of training, based upon their varying needs: often, on an individual or small group basis, the training will relate to a specific project. Whatever your role in the energy industry, the ability to communicate with your clients and colleagues is critical to a successful working relationship.
Global Reach, Global Staff
Cactus recognises that many staff employed in the energy industry are not native English speakers. Although they may live and work in the UK, they may still be learning a second (if not third) language. We have helped staff whose written skills in English are not as proficient as their verbal skills, for example, or who would like to learn a more formalised business English to help them at work. This is something that can be taught individually or in a group setting. English group training often reaches across different departments, meaning that this type of training is excellent for company dynamics and breaking down barriers.
Languages for Relocation in the Energy Industry
Relocation and travel is a prospect that many within the energy industry will encounter and also welcome. Moving to offices in Brazil or to oil fields in Libya (see feedback to the left) are typical movements of Cactus clients. Although they may continue to conduct their everyday role at work in English, many of their clients, colleagues and indeed socialising will be affected by their proficiency in the native language. To be seen to be making an effort to assimilate into the culture you live in sends out a positive message: it acknowledges that you are part of an international community and helps companies to create stronger foundations in the countries where they operate. The bigger thinkers in these industries know not to rest on their laurels: they are pioneers and adventurers, and they will be missing many opportunities by not making the effort to communicate in the local language.
Cactus has provided language and cultural training in Arabic, English, Russian, French and Italian, to both clients in the UK preparing to relocate and to those who do not live permanently in one place, yet whose jobs require constant travel and language ability.
How it Works
Our qualified, native speaker language trainers are based nationwide throughout the UK and abroad. The training takes place either in the offices of your organisation or in one of our training rooms which are available throughout the UK and overseas.
Once you've spoken to one of our training coordinators we will prepare you a course proposal/booking form, containing a sample programme and quote. Once you return this to us we will be able to put together your training programme, agree dates, frequencies and locations, brief the trainer(s) and confirm everything back to you.
Organisation of Lessons
There is no obligation to have lessons at the same day and time each week: you can schedule your lessons from week to week if you wish, and we simply require a minimum 48 hours' notice for rescheduling. All training is coordinated and overseen from our UK office and our clients have one point of contact who arranges all aspects of their training.
