Laura Harrison, Cactus TEFL Advisor, reports back from our Cactus TEFL Open Evening in London
The third of our 2008 Open Evenings was held at the Guardian newsrooms in Farringdon on the 13th June and was, by all accounts, a resounding success.
Over 75 people came along to find out more about how to realise their TEFL projects, and were treated to presentations by Trinity College’s Head of TESOL, Jenny Pugsley, one of Cambridge ESOL’s most experienced teacher trainers and assessors, Conrad Heynes, and Director of Human Resources at Saxoncourt Recruitment, Ian Holden.

Alex Wolfson reports back on our Cactus Language Evening in conjunction with Brighton Festival Fringe
I’m sitting at my desk with my hands shaking slightly and a slight pain in my temple after all the San Miguel I ended up drinking last night, but do not feel at all guilty about this because it was all down to the great night had by all who attended the Cactus Language Fringe event at the Western Front.

Cactus Cake Takes The Biscuit
Posted by richard under News
The team at Cactus has a certain reputation for celebrating whatever event they can possibly justify to themselves is worth opening a bottle for. Birthdays stand out though, and usually see an amount of bubbling alcoholic liquid - be it Koelnsh, Cava or Kronenburg - combined with sickly M&S buns, biscuits and crisps.
Not, however, in the case of Cactus’ own Amy Emerson in Finance. The usual Cactus confection has been utterly upstaged, with the arrival of the latest in a long line of cakes from Amy’s mum. So massive thanks to Cakes R Us!

A news article about the company’s expansion into New York also appeared in Language Travel Magazine, one of the key industry trade titles. The article included a quote from Richard Ambler, Cactus’s NY MD, about the move: “This feels like the right time to go to New York. We have the courses, partners and people in place and we are confident we can give it a go. If we get the model right, we will be looking to open another branch somewhere in Europe, then somewhere further afield.” The article also detailed Cactus’s personnel moves in the UK and the locations and languages offered in New York.

Publications: Business XL, Date: Dec 07/Jan 08
Business XL is a key trade magazine which aims to help CEOs and owner managers to grow their companies faster. The magazine’s editor, Marc Barber, interviewed Rich for a profile article to discuss the company’s history and key business decisions that Rich has made over the years. The profile appeared both online and in print and Rich commented: “Recently, we opened an office in New York and the plan is to expand further internationally. As the company grows, so does the necessity for me to really keep track of the figures and that’s where having my number two, Richard Bradford, who is now MD for the UK, is a great help.”
