Cactus Opinion: London (by Hayley Gee)
Posted by Sarah under Cactus Languages Abroad, Cactus Staff Opinion, English, Language Courses UK
Hayley Gee, Head of Cactus Language, gives us her thoughts on London
London is an exciting, vibrant and colourful city made so by its stunning architecture and colourful multiculturalism. Walking the historic streets of London you will come across every national of the globe and here a multitude of languages. I like the fact that everyone appears to get along harmoniously, even if this is sadly not always the case.
I love the tradition of London and the ceremony of its royal parades and parliament, which often seems bizarre! History is everywhere so what better place to embark on an English course, in the heart of it all!
Although many languages are spoken in London, learning English is very important, especially as most of the English people in London are unable to speak any other languages and have a strange accent. They are called cockney and have a special language of their own called cockney rhyming slang, which is impossible to understand.
Speaking English at the excellent Camden and Portobello markets is also essential, especially if you want to barter for a good price.
I loved London and intend to do many more English courses and maybe take some English exams over the next few years.
